Tasked with low level bombing operations at the start of Operation Overlord on 6th June 1944, the B 26 Marauders of the 386th Bomb Group, 553rd Bomb Squadron, carried out their missions with great success, softening up the German defenses to pave the way for the Allied landings along the beaches of northern France.
